Paige

Paige grew up around a Houston and Texas Central Railway water tower in 1872, and German settlers began buying town lots in 1877. Today it is an unincorporated crossroads on US 290 with homes on acreage and a steady supply of land for sale: 41 land and farm tracts of an acre or more were listed with a Paige address on October 29, 2026. Paige-area addresses can fall in more than one school district, so check the exact parcel.

McDade

McDade was established in 1869 ahead of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and is known historically for McDade Pottery and melons grown in its sandy soil. It has its own school district, McDade ISD (2025 tax rate 0.9555 per $100). Homes listed with a McDade ZIP in October 2026 sat on a median of about 10 acres, and the median asking price was high for such a small market.

Red Rock

Red Rock was settled in the early 1850s; the name likely comes from a red stone in settler James Brewer’s chimney, and the town moved about a mile around 1890 to meet the MKT railroad. It is unincorporated, about 12 miles southwest of Bastrop, and the townsite is in Bastrop ISD. Homes here sit on multi-acre lots, and vacant tracts of 1 to 10 acres with a Red Rock address had the lowest median asking price per acre of the seven Bastrop County mailing cities I track (a small sample of 8 listings on October 29, 2026).

What to check when buying out here

  • Water. Ask the water supplier for written service availability, or plan a well registered with the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District.
  • Septic. Expect a septic system; get the county permit file and an inspection.
  • Access and roads. Confirm legal access and who maintains the road; see my land access guide.
  • Ag appraisal. Many tracts carry an agricultural or wildlife appraisal; read the rollback tax guide before you change the use.
  • Internet and commute. Test both at the property; see internet and cell service in Bastrop County.
  • Electric provider. Retail choice exists in the McDade ZIP; elsewhere the address determines the provider.
